Residence and Commuter Life
At Misericordia, the quality of life that is provided for our students through Residence Life and Student Affairs is taken very seriously. Every effort is taken to ensure that our students get the most out of their experiences living on campus. A safe, supportive and healthy living environment is provided where students can learn from themselves as well as their peers in an effort to facilitate self-growth. See our residence halls.
Commuters are a vital part of the Misericordia University community. All services, events and activities are available to commuters and the university actively encourages commuter participation in them. As an active member of the campus community, commuters will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, get involved in service learning and understand the value of giving back to their community. We have found that the more involved a commuter becomes in campus life, the better their experience.
The First Year Experience Program
FYI is designed to orient first year students to the institution andhelp them integrate themselves into the university community. Through aspecial introductory session at orientation and six follow up weeklyclassroom workshops during the Fall semester, all first year studentshave the opportunity to become familiar with key offices, services andresource on campus and to explore issues related to university life, i.e.,diversity, wellness, thinking, learning, peer pressure and drugs andalcohol. They also have an opportunity to develop a support networkconsisting of fellow students, student service personnel and faculty. During the Spring semester, all First Year students participate inanother FYE Program devoted to leadership development. Students workwith their facilitators and classmates to assess their leadershippotential and plan for activities and opportunities to explore theirleadership capabilities both on and off campus.
Choice Program
Misericordia University's Choice Program consists of a series of sevenworkshops designed to assist Undeclared students explore theirinterests, values and skills as well as the various Misericordia majorcurricula and world of work. All incoming first year Undeclared studentsare encouraged to participate in this experience. During the seven-weekseries, students will complete a series of informal assessments, engagein individual and group reflection experiences, interact with areaemployers representing student's fields of interest, explore theMisericordia catalogue and meet with Misericordia professors to explorecareer options in the various major fields. The Choice Program offersUndeclared students an opportunity to interact with other students whoare exploring their futures and provides them with a support system asthey adjust to MU and make decisions about their major and careerchoices. This workshop series is co-facilitated by the Learning ResourceCenter and the Insalaco Center for Career Development
Student Government
The Student Government Association of Misericordia University acts as a vehicle for the students in order to build a better living/learning environment through listening and advocating the needs and concerns of the students to the administration.
Student Media
The Communications Department provides students with several ways to learn how media operates and express themselves creatively. All students, regardless of major, are invited to contribute.
“The Highlander” is a student written and published newspaper. It is published bi-weekly during the semester.
“Cougar Radio” is a student operated radio station available to all students through the university's intranet (e-MU). It is streamed world wide 24/7.
Misericordia University Television creates video programming for the university's closed circuit TV system and local cable providers. Student positions are open for crew members.
“Instress” is the campus literary magazine which prints original material by students and members of the university community. Instress is published once a year in the spring.
The Arts
Each year Misericordia University hosts numerous performances by outstanding national artists and organizations. Events run the gamut from live theater to folk music. Diversity Institute
The Diversity Institute is an educational resource center located on the campus of Misericordia University. The Institute sees as its primary goal working collaboratively with community members to promote multi- cultural understanding and the elimination of all forms of discrimination. The Institute's mission is educational. The programs of the Institute will share practical tools and ideas to assist individuals and groups as they seek to promote multicultural awareness.
