University Status

Empowered by our mission and traditions of our founders, the Sisters of Mercy, Misericordia has experienced significant growth over the last seven years. Because of this well-planned growth and a desire to enhance an already solid academic reputation, College Misericordia applied for university status.

After a three-year process and upon achieving state approval, we attained university status in the fall of 2007. We are now Misericordia University. Our move to university status reflects a natural evolution of Misericordia. We were already known for superior programs in the health sciences and other disciplines. Now, under a university structure, we can offer even greater customization in our academic offerings. Today, we enroll over 2,300 students, both full- and part-time, and offer a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs.

We’re excited about this change. It will continue to allow Misericordia to focus upon individualized attention for our students while providing them with a progressively challenging undergraduate and graduate experience.

With university status comes the introduction of our Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a new Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, both available to our full-time students. And, in 2008, we expect to introduce a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (post-professional) and expand our bachelor’s degree in health care management to include full-time, traditional students.

This is an exciting time at Misericordia University and you can be a part of it. New residence halls and academic buildings are under construction. In recent years, we’ve intentionally capped freshmen enrollment to be sure we could deliver on our promise of personalized attention.
