So.... the last few days have been pretty good. I finished my first watercolor painting project - its a silhouette of trees against a setting sun background. I'm pretty happy with the results, and I'm excited to get it framed and hang it in the living room of my townhouse. My housemates and I have been hanging artwork in the living room, since my roommate is a photographer and we have another friend that fingerpainted a painting for us. Yes, finger painting... yet somehow it was amazing! Crazy, huh?
I finally got a haircut Thursday after class, and then my bible study met for the 2nd time. We had a fairly good turnout of 7 girls... not too shabby for a small group study :-) The real trick is keeping people involved as the semester gets harder... yet somehow I think its really all about time management! hmmm I think my mother told me that... scary what you remember from your parents ;-)
This weekend was the Dallas Harvest Festival on Main Street!!! I absolutely loved it! There was a whole street blocked off by the 5 way intersection (yes, 5 ways. it sometimes takes talent to know when to avoid this intersection, since the lights are disguistingly unfair to 2 directions. Of course, these are usually the directions I need to go. Anyway...) It was a great time! There were lots of food vendors and jewelry makers, and hot dogs and halushki and pierogies and chicken gumbo soup and fried dough and apple cider and apple cider doughnuts and potato pancakes and birch beer. I just love the atmosphere of a small town getting together for a festival. You can tell that a lot of people know each other and have grown up there their entire life, which is fun to watch sometimes cuz they can have quirks they don't even know about! I've been told you're not a true Dallas native until your family has lived here for 4 generations... Interesting, huh? That means my grandchildren wouldn't even be true natives if we were all to stay here. Of course, they do say this area is a black hole. So I'd better beware, or my future fate could be limited to potato pancakes and pierogies for the rest of my life.
Tonight the roommates and I made tacos, which was also amazing. Then I finally got around to writing letters back to my sister and a friend, which I've been meaning to do for a few weeks now. Here's a tip for college: write real letters. Not emails, not facebook messages, no. pen and ink and envelopes and stamps kind of letters. It's way more personal and something you can keep for years and years. I already look back at letters from Freshman year and smile at the friends I've kept and reminisce about the friends that have naturally drifted away. It's basically just a good habit to get into :-)
Ok, time to get going. It's test week!
Ciao
