Working for the Yankees and Triple-A Affiliate

“No matter what happens from this point on,” said Al Santasiere ‘01, “it all started here at Misericordia.” That ‘point’ from which he refers to is Assistant Director, Publications and Multimedia, of the New York Yankees.

Santasiere’s path began on campus where, as a business management major, he worked with counselors at the Insalaco Center for Career Development to obtain real-world experience in the front office of several professional sports teams including the Philadelphia Phillies and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
“This was an amazing place for me to go to college because they motivated me and wanted me to do well,” said Santasiere. “Since I place a lot of value on that, Misericordia was the perfect place for me to be.”
After graduation, Santasiere worked with the Baltimore Orioles and later obtained his MS in Sport Management. He did a six credit internship with the Miami Dolphins for the 2002 season and was chosen as one of two dozen interns to work as a media relations representative for the NFL during that year’s Super Bowl.

“My goal was to work in professional sports,” said Santasiere. “I was fortunate enough when I was in graduate school to work in media relations with the Orange Bowl and then the Dolphins (his favorite NFL team).”
After these experiences, Santasiere became the full-time senior editor of publication at Yankee Stadium, where he soon was promoted to his current position.
Three Misericordia sport management graduates: Mike Trudnak ’04, Tim Connell ’04, and Barry Snyder ’06, also currently work at the Yankees Triple-A affiliate in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area.

Trudnak will be entering his 4th season as a staff member and is thankful for his experience at Misericordia.
“Misericordia doesn’t only build you education wise, they build you as a person,” said Trudnak. Trudnak previously worked for the team as an intern, Promotions Director and ticket representative.
Snyder has been recently hired as the full-time Sales and Marketing Coordinator. He will be coordinating all aspects of sales and marketing including budgets and the internship program. He was an intern during the summer of 2006.
Tim Connell recently joined the staff as a Corporate Marketing Manager. Prior to joining the Red Barons, he was the Director of Business Development for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers Arena II football team.
