Dorms

What do you think about the dorm rooms and the buildings? Where are the best rooms? how much of a difference in price is a suite?

Re: Dorms

Hi! That's a really good question. The dorm buildings here are really nice! We have a lot of different housing options that become available to you as you progress through your time here, so if you would like to experience different types of living environments you'll get that opportunity. When you come in as a freshman you will either get to stay in McHale Hall, a four story, all freshman dorm, or Alumnae Hall, which also has four floors, but freshman only occupy the top two. Both dorms are great; McHale was only built a few years ago, and Alumnae was just remodeled. They each have lounges to hang out in (with TV's, game tables, etc), kitchen areas to cook, laundry rooms, study areas, and very clean bathrooms (which is a plus). The bedrooms (generally 2 person rooms) are very big compared to other schools, and every time a new student comes here to get a tour, they are shocked by how much space they get to themselves. There are a ton of storage areas in each bedroom, two desks, two dressers, two closets, beds that can be lofted or bunked for even more room if you choose, and each room has a sink with counter space. In addition to how nice they look, they also have other positive aspects, such as an open, friendly, community environment. Everyone walks around like it's just one big home, and you'll rarely see a door shut. The RA's (resident assistants) that live on each floor put on all different types of activities weekly, so if you're bored, it's because you're letting yourself be, because there is always a ton of stuff to do.

Aside from McHale and Alumnae, there are two other dorm buildings on campus, Gildea and McGowen Halls. Gildea, where I presently live, is a dorm of 3, 6, and 7 person suites. Each suite has all the bedrooms attached to a large common room, and the members of the suite share a big bathroom. You can live in Gildea from sophmore year on, and it is only about $200.00 more a semester than the other dorms I mentioned. It is so nice living in the suites because you have a space that resembles your own apartment. If you want to keep your door open you may, yet you have the option for a lot of privacy as well if you need to study. McGowen is a brand new dorm that consists of two seperate dorm rooms attached by a bathroom. This is also available to sophmore students and up. In both of these dorms, there are kitchen areas, and the RA's work hard to get all of the residents involved in different activites each week, similar to the freshman dorms.

Finally, there are town houses within walking distance of the campus that are Misericordia owned. They are about $400.00 more than the freshman dorms. They are open to juniors and above, and house 6 people each. They are incredibly nice, and are set up like any standard town house.

Overall our school offers some incredible places to live. If you would want to look into our housing, or anything for that matter further, I'd recommend calling to set up an appointment for a tour, or look into one of our open houses (the next one is November 8th). I hope this helps you out!
